Craig Gravitz

Director, Project Accelerator Transition Innovation Office

Craig Gravitz currently serves as ARPA-H Director of Transition Office and has been conducting government R&D for the last decade. First, he designed and ran the Defense Logistics Agency’s Technology Accelerator. He subsequently joined ARPA-H and helped in many aspects of the agency’s design. He is also a licensed attorney and has previously served in the Department of Defense as a contracting officer. At the Defense Logistics Agency, he developed the "sprint" model, which ARPA-H adopted.

Gravitz refined the model running high-technology readiness level (TRL) projects on pandemic response, advanced manufacturing, AI and 3D modeling, automation, and cybersecurity. Many of these projects succeeded as permanent capabilities while others failed. Working at the higher end of the TRL spectrum taught him about the importance of transition and building in transition-focused approaches early into programs. Moreover, he learned to apply human-centered design and address market viability challenges like IP (freedom to operate) and regulatory hurdles. In his role at ARPA-H, he is building capabilities to help all ARPA-H programs “survive in the wild.”
