Dr. Hyowon (Hugh) Lee joined ARPA-H in May 2026 from Purdue University, where he served as Professor of Biomedical Engineering and Director of the Purdue Center for Implantable Devices. His translational research focused on implantable and wearable closed-loop microsystems for acute and chronic illnesses management and treatment, and he has co-founded two medical device start-ups originating from his lab. His current interests include healthcare robotics, neural interfaces, and continuous monitoring of chronic illness progression. 

Lee holds a Ph.D. in biomedical engineering from the University of California, Los Angeles and is a recipient of the NSF CAREER Award. Before joining Purdue, he worked at St. Jude Medical’s Implantable Electronics Systems Division (now Abbott) on neuromodulation and cardiac applications.
