Magnetic Milli-Spinner Microbot (M3bot) for Robotic Mechanical Thrombectomy for Stroke Treatment

The team will develop and clinically translate M3bot, an intravascular magnetic helical device that autonomously debulks and extracts blood clots for  treatment of ischemic stroke. Millimeter-scale proof-of-concept devices have already shown clinically relevant swimming, clot engagement, and shrinking in complex models of brain vasculature. Throughout the effort, the team will improve M3bot performance and reliability, as well as enable automated magnetic navigation through AI-based computer vision. Testing will progress from existing in vitro phantoms in Phase 1 to ex vivo tissue and porcine stroke models in Phase 2, with FDA engagement planned mid-project to clarify the regulatory path.
