ExOBrain: Extending Viability of Human Brain Tissue Postmortem for Disease Modeling and Treatment Discovery

Neurodegenerative disease, including Alzheimer's, is one of the largest and fastest-growing unmet needs in the United States. The current state of the art in preclinical central nervous system (CNS) research fails to replicate the cellular diversity, vascular architecture, pathology, and synaptic complexity of the intact human brain, and this poor predictive validity is the predominant cause of late-stage CNS clinical trial failures. This project advances Bexorg's BrainEx platform from a 24-hour proof-of-concept into a 14-day production research instrument for preclinical neurological drug discovery, gene and cell therapy evaluation, and trauma medicine research. Bexorg, Inc. will deliver integrated hardware and software upgrades, an optimized perfusate and oxygen-carrier formulation, AI-driven closed-loop control, and validated applications including therapeutic delivery, blood-brain-barrier transit, viral delivery, clinical trial replication, and combination drug testing in intact human disease brain.
