MIND-MDx: Molecular Indicators and Neural Dynamics for Mental Health Precision Diagnostics

Psychiatric diagnosis today relies on symptom-based assessment, making it difficult to distinguish bipolar spectrum disorders from schizophrenia (conditions that overlap clinically and share genetic architecture) and delaying effective treatment. MIND-MDx will develop an objective, cellular-resolution diagnostic by generating patient-specific neural networks from a patient's blood and profiling them with a dual readout: a molecular biomarker (CRMP2 phosphorylation ratio) paired with functional electrophysiology. Over 24 months, the project will build a proof-of-concept cohort spanning bipolar I, bipolar II, bipolar I with psychosis history, and schizophrenia and test whether these signatures can reliably separate patient groups from unaffected controls, a critical step toward faster, more precise behavioral health diagnostics.
